Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and is one of the national holidays of India.

History and Life
Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar in Gujrat. Mahatma Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi later he known as Mahatma Gandhi. He completed his education and got law degree from London.
After coming back to India he joined Indian National Congress. He then started movements like Dandi March, Quit India Movement and Non Cooperation Movement, Satya Grah to attain freedom from Britishers, who were ruling India at that time.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated all over country and people light a candle for Father of the Nation. President, Prime Minister and other senior leaders visit Raj Ghat and pay their tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers and lighting a candle. All government offices, banks, schools and post offices and more remain closed on Gandhi ji birthday.
