International Yoga Day 2025

World Yoga Day 2025

Every year on 21st June, people across the globe roll out their mats to celebrate International Yoga Day, a special day dedicated to the ancient practice that brings balance to body, mind and soul. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just starting out, Yoga Day is a reminder that even a few minutes of breathing, stretching, and mindfulness can make a big difference.

Why do we celebrate Yoga Day?

International Yoga Day, also known as the International Day of Yoga, is observed each year on June 21, coinciding with the summer solstice, the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. Declared by the United Nations in 2014, this day was initiated by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who proposed the idea at the 69th UN General Assembly, receiving historic support from 177 nations. The day is now celebrated in over 190 countries, emphasising yoga’s universal relevance as a tool for well-being, peace, and unity. It highlights not just physical postures (asanas), but also breath control (pranayama), meditation (dhyana), and ethical living, the full spectrum of yoga philosophy.
