What is Pran Pratishtha?

Pran Pratishtha is a popular ritual in Hinduism, where the idol of a deity is installed at a sacred place like a temple, after sanctification.During the time of installation of the idols, the priests perform a lot of rituals amid the chanting of vedic hymns. The word Pran means life force and Pratishtha means establishment. Pran Pratishtha or consecration ceremony means invoking the life force in the idol.

How is The Process Of Pran Pratishtha Done?

The process of Pran Pratishtha starts with the idol being ceremoniously brought to the temple. Then, they are brought to life by bathing them in milk and applying fragrances. Then, the process starts by placing the idol in the sanctum sanctorum. During this time, the idol is dressed and placed in the east direction by the head priest. After installing it in the right place, the priests start singing the hymns and mantras and performing rituals. At first, the eyes of the idol are opened. Once this process is done, the idol is considered worthy of being worshipped. It is believed that the rituals infuse life into the idol and bring the divine presence of presiding deity to the temple.

What Happens To The Idol Before Pran Pratishtha?

Pran Pratishtha is considered an important ritual at any temple. It is believed that before the process of Pran Pratishtha every idol is like any other decorative piece of a figurine. It is believed that through Pran Pratishtha, special powers are infused into them, and they are transformed into deities. After this process, devotees can worship these idols.

Why Shouldn’t A Stone Statue Be Kept Inside Houses?

Famous yogi and philosopher says that a stone statue should only be installed in homes because at temples there are priests who perform proper rituals and pujas every day. But, at home, there may be times when people would not be able to do that. If these stone idols are not worshipped daily, yogi claims that they tend to absorb energy from the house.

How Many Times Should The Deities Be Worshipped?

According to Hindu traditions, the idol of the deity should be worshipped five times a day, with the first ritual starting during the Brahma Muhurat and the last ritual ending just before the sunset.
